The story of a badly deluded taxi driver.

Today, the taxi driver was so f***ed up that I couldn't help myself arguing with him. He started off with how if I have the chance, I should leave Singapore and go as far away as possible and not come back -_- Then he continued about how horrible the government is and how he wants to so-called "topple" the present government, etc, etc. 5 minutes into his rants, I could take it no longer (I actually took a cab so I could stone) and decided to question his so-called arguments. I was super pissed by them cause his arguments are so unsubstantiated. When I questioned them and he had nothing to say, he just goes "I don't care". Which pisses me off even more. Here are some examples of why he apparently "hates" the government.

1) He tells me that his brother-in-law is a UK citizen and his children there only has to pay 1000 pounds for university education (I have no idea how true that is). Then he starts to complain that in Singapore, there's no free education etc.

My reply - Singapore's education fees are not insane. From all the way to JC I think it's quite affordable to most people? Our university fees are not INSANELY-priced either. If I'm not wrong, NUS or NTU is about 3+ or 4 K a semester? Anyway, if you are that poor, you have grants or you can take a bank loan interest free!

2) Apparently his daughter is a NUS graduate (no idea which faculty) and he complained that it took her two whole years before she got a permanent job.

My reply - Seriously? If she took TWO YEARS to get a job, her expectations were either too high, she's too choosy, or she is too lousy (which I think shouldn't be the case cause she is a graduate after all).

3) His daughter's pay is ONLY 2K plus, and that MEASLY amount of money is not enough to live in Singapore.

My reply - (This one in particular really pisses me off)
HELLO. THE STARTING PAY OF GRADUATES IS 2K PLUS. THE AVERAGE FAMILY IN SINGAPORE EARNS 5K. THAT'S ALREADY HALF. IF A FAMILY WHERE BOTH PARENTS ARE CLEANERS AND EARN $800 EACH, CAN SURVIVE AND STILL RAISE A SMALL FAMILY, WHY YOUR STUPID DAUGHTER CANNOT SURVIVE ON 2K PLUS?!?!?!?!? She lives in the same house with her parents, doesn't own a car, how can that amount of money not be enough?!!?? Live frugally luh! Eat at hawker centres, don't shop so much, don't be so extravagant on stuff.

4) He then continues on to complain on that he's a taxi driver, he earns so little, so poor, etc, etc. Then he comes up with this most infuriating sentence "If the opposition comes in, they will tax the rich more and give it to the poor people."

My reply - PLEASE LUH. As if the opposition will do that. (I bet he didn't even do his homework on political figures)

5) Continuation on how he so-called hates the government, etc, and his plan is to rally his friends to vote for the opposition. When I asked him exactly how many friends he had, he retorted that he will ask all his brothers and sisters to do so too. -_- By which I retorted that that will obviously not be enough. HAHA. Then he says "I don't care".

6) Then I ask him so what happens if the government really loses the majority and some rogue party/person takes over? Then it becomes worse still and he still remains poor? His reply was, "I don't care about the future (whether or not some rogue takes over), I just care about the present!" DON'T YOU THINK THAT IS SUCH AN IMMATURE REPLY.

7) Asked him if the government was not already doing a decent job, like how Singapore is somewhat a developed country while many countries in Asia are still developing and in some mess. His reply was "You cannot compare what, like Thailand the government open one eye close one eye". After which I told him to compare us with Hong Kong then, he went back to his favourite phrase when he has nothing else to say "I don't care". Seriously, he's just trying to blame the government for his "fate", which I actually do not think that is THAT terrible, at least you have food, you can afford to send your children to university, etc right! SOME PEOPLE IN SINGAPORE DO NOT EVEN HAVE MONEY TO BUY BREAD.

It's not that I don't pity you or whatever you know, but your reasons are not even reasons.
Which brings me to this:
IF YOU DON'T CARE. THEN WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING.
